JUNE NEWSLETTER "What people are saying about learning with Sherry"
|
|
Dear Horse lovers,
This month we would like to share with you some testimonials because I have been so blessed by the fantastic progress and changes I am seeing in both the people who have studied with me and their horses. The success stories just keep coming in.
So if you want to get even better results with your horse we can help! Some of the benefits from studying with Sherry include:
even more confidence,
better communication,
stronger leadership,
a more willing horse,
fun with safety,
less frustration,
deeper understanding of your horse,
closer relationship,
savvy skills,
creative activities,
excellence performance no matter what discipline you choose!
One young gal who I have been giving English riding lesson to since early last fall has come sooooooo far with her horse that I am sure with her new confidence and skills she will succeed nicely this show season.
I can hardly wait to watch her at the state 4-H show in Grand Island in July. I am certain that she is going to place in the top winners in the advanced English Equitation and she will more than likely do very well in trail as well. It has been such a pleasure to coach such a teachable young person.
YES, I can coach people who compete as well as those who just ride as a hobby!
I also had an woman over 40 advancing to "leads" this past weekend. It was exciting to watch her helping her horse find the correct leads.
Two other students who have both studied regularly with me for the past three years are now cantering. Both of these women have overcome their fears and developed confident horses who used to be difficult. One of these gals was told by more than one trainer to get rid of her horse, because it was no good and it was dangerous. But she has persevered and is living her dream. The one that has benefited the most is her horse!
Another one of my dedicated students was asked this week to give shots to the horses at her boarding stable and load horses in a trailer. She did all with ease, even though everyone thought she was going to have difficult time.
It is rewarding to see many of my students advancing to excellent performance and hearing reports of other people telling them how talented they are. Everybody can be great with horses, if they are willing to pay the price through sweat and tears.
READ ON TO HEAR WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT LEARNING WITH SHERRY!
“My hubby has even noticed my “new horse” since we did the clinic last weekend. We trimmed his feet last night and non-horsey husband was very impressed with my very well behaved horse. He said the clinic was worth every penny.” Shannon
“During my lesson Sherry discovered that my driving game on the front end was broken. I knew that all along, but chose to skip over it when I played with him so I could get through my games and ride. First lesson, don’t skip over anything. Sherry will catch it! Plus it will effect everything else you want to do.
Also found out I was too strong on the reins for lateral flexion and moving the hind quarters. Yeessh, what a cat clawer I was. I really need to work on my softness.
I finally got the passenger posting trot with my hands on the swells instead of his mane. That took my weight mostly off the stirrups and into my seat and legs where it is suppose to be. It felt great to find that feel.
During the lesson Sherry managed to help Sierra with her 4H requirements for the riding skills level testing she has next week. She was great at keeping us both working on something totally separate.
The time flew by and it started to rain, but I really wanted to stay in the saddle and keep going! Rain drops falling off my helmet and all. It was great to see you Sherry and thanks for making the trip to help these humans understand our horses better. Cim and Lacey thank you too! Cindy
“ My lesson today with Sherry was wonderful. She helped me refine lateral flexion by giving me some different ways to ask instead of the same ole same ole. We worked on my send because it was whimpy and when it was better my horse finally jumped some feed buckets. I was so pleased with her. My time just went too fast.” Sharon
"I had my first clinic with Sherry this past weekend. And my head is a buzz I had a 3 hours drive home and all the way it was "now what do I do"???
My horse Charlie, a purebred Arab is a people horse. He loves to please but at the same time is very dominate. I found out he is a quick study who is very intelligent. He loves to play games and I discovered I would much rather play the games on my terms rather than, "How do I dump mom today?" or "How do I mess with her head today?"
I decided on the way home he is like one of those kids that is doing poorly in school, not because he is dumb, slow or confused, but because he is bored.
Me: I had a horse as a teenager with no training for me or the horse. I was lucky she was very mellow!! Then I went 30 years without horses in my life. I kinda' woke up one day and had this very "challenging" Arab. Charlie came from an abusive home where a 2x4 was used when he was "bad".
So anyway I found out that on the ground I am fast and not firm enough, and in the saddle I am "hard" and again to fast. I have lots of work to do and since I will not wake up tomorrow and have all Sherry's knowledge and skills I have to take baby steps "slowly"!!!! And I need all the support and help I can get!
It was WAY COOOOOOL to see Charlie jump the barrels!!!!!
Yesterday my grandson Zack and I went to Indian Caves to ride Charlie and CJ (another purebred Arab). Instead of just saddling up and taking off as I used to do, we did a lot of bending on the ground, and it was the first time on BOTH sides he did it perfect all the way to his chest.
We had a very nice ride no spooks, no rushing and no head shaking. We even had a deer jump out in front of us and Charlie stopped and looked then went on. I am pretty sure last week he would have done his 380 spin and then he would have been looking at me on the ground with his expressive eyes saying "Mom, what are you doin' down there?" Shannon
"Matt" and I send a "BIG THANKS" your way. We could not have gotten this far without your encouragement, knowledge and your critiquing. Watching videos are wonderful, but they are no substitute for your personal fine tuning! Thanks for polishing up my leadership skills and for helping me to communicate more effectively in a passive aggressive manner. I look forward to our next session with much progress! I am "facing My Fears, and Living My Dream!" Thanks for being apart of our journey!
With much appreciation,
Audra and "Matt"
I hope that you have been inspired by reading these testimonial. Whatever you do with your horse here is wishing you the best and please, keep it natural and safe.
Happy Trails,
Sherry Jarvis

OTHER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THIS SUMMER!
Host an EQUINE PSYCHOLOGY CLASS this summer in the air-conditioning of your own home:
Host a LEARNING DEMONSTRATION for a 4-h group, saddle club, or group of friends:
I will bring my horses or use a problem horse from the group to give you an evening or afternoon of learning by watching. Interactions with questions and answers will be a big part of the learning environment. So for those who are always wanting to audit or are just curious about what we do in natural horsemanship this is a perfect opportunity. I promise you will learn a lot. It costs less per person than a clinic or private lesson.
NEED YOUR YOUNG HORSE STARTED WE CAN HELP!
We will have two more young horse handling clininc this summer. The first one was a hit on April 20th. All of the horses were ridden for their first time bareback and in a halter without resistance.
The next ones will be at Chance Ridge on July 20 and Aug 17th from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm
The reason for the long day is we will be dividing the class up so we don't over work the young horses by making them learn for long periods. Instead we will take turns and give the horses frequent short learning periods.
Sessions will be from:
9:00-10:00 Introductions/classroom learning
10:00-12:00 First session
12:00-1:00 Lunch Break
1:00-3:00 Second Session
3:00-5:00 Third Session
5:00-6:00 Supper Break
6:00-8:00 Fourth Session
8:00-9:00 Reflections/Question Answers/ Evaluations
We will focus on reading the horse, helping the young horse gain confidence in the environment, the handler and in himself, trust and respect on the ground, sensitizing and desensitizing exercises, cues we will use when riding, flexion, saddling, and possibly mounting bareback if the horse and rider are ready.
Another way we can help you with your young horse is take your horse for 30, 60 or 90 days:
We are now teaming with Sarah Sortum from Calamus Outfitters Ranch near Burwell, NE.
Sarah is nearly through her PNH level 3. She has been training mules and horses for years. Mules are her first love, but she is also very good with horses.
A lot of you have asked me to take your horses home with me, or to start your young ones. However because my traveling schedule is so hectic, I just don't have time to devote to this, my students, and all the other responsibilities I have making sure Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship is always growing and progressing in a positive direction.
I am pleased to announce that I can finally meet this need through Sarah. I know that Sarah will develop your horse in a natural and safe manner. Please call or e-mail Sherry for more information about Sarah.
After Sarah has helped your horse, I will be glad to help you understand how to continue developing your partnership. This will help insure that you get your money's worth and all the hard work Sarah has put into your horse will remain and keep progressing positively.
Because this is a partnership, it is important that both the horse and the owner have equal training, otherwise you may be disappointed with the money spent on training the horse alone.
"INTRODUCING SHERRY'S BLOG" To read Sherry's Blog
I will be journaling about my adventure of becoming a more natural and savvy horsewoman. The mistakes I have made and the lessons I have learned from those mistakes.
We already have 66 members on our Heart in Your Hand Yahoo Chat Group.
This group is dedicated to natural horsemanship students lead by Sherry & Keith Jarvis whose aim is to help both the horse and rider to become even more successful by presenting a balanced foundation from which you can build a confident, trusting, respectful relationship, without sacrificing the spirit of either the horse or the human. This is a place to share natural horsemanship philosophies and how horses change our lives including those little victories/defeats that don’t mean anything to the "normal" crowd, to have a place to celebrate/vent leadership issues, blinding flashes of the obvious, or brainstorm creative ideas! We will be able to organize natural play days, tournaments, and post information and announcements of natural horsemanship happenings.
This group is by invitation only. You are officially invited by receiving this newsletter. If you would like to join Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship's Yahoo group please e-mail Leigh the moderator at freeman@diodecom.net
