TRAVELING TRAINER
Let's say you are having a particular problem that doesn't warrant 30 days with a trainer. Consider the "traveling trainer". I will come and help you with individual common problems like; trailer loading, fly spray, bathing, lifting feet, head tossing, won't stand still for saddling or mounting, accepting the bridle, worming, despooking, catching, etc.
Most of these problems can initially be taken care of in less than a day if done properly. Then I will give you the tools to be consistent with the process so that you have continued success.
Don't be embarrassed because you don't have a problem that I haven't had in the past. I didn't used to know how to deal with these problems, now I simply find them fascinating.
Give me a call if you have a particular issue that you would like to deal with. If I don't have the answers, I know how to find them. Sometimes it is hard to describe them on paper, but very easy to show them.
I recently gave 20 private lessons over four days in the Omaha/Lincoln area.
I spent a lot of hours on the road and drove over 600 miles, but had a tremendous amount of fun with each lesson. Each lesson was different and I was able to help each person achieve a few firsts with their horses, plus clear up some existing issues.
One of the main issues several people had was with desensitizing or despooking their horses. I helped horses enjoy their fly spray, pick up their feet without resistance, become familiar and friendly to the scary blue tarp, ropes or the carrot stick. These horses had convinced their owners that they didn’t like these things, when in fact the owners didn’t have the proper tools to help the horses overcome their fears.
Other issues I covered during these private lessons were; dullness, how to loosen up the feet to move with more freedom, getting more exuberance and play from a horse, leading with safety and respect, stick to me game, catching game, backing to cure biting, hind the hinny for a kicking horse, change of direction on circle and transitions, leads, side-pass, pivots, going through gates both on ground and while riding.
Many of the people were new students, and they commented that a couple of hours weren’t enough to accomplish all they needed and wanted. A two or three day clinic is definitely a better value for each dollar as it is much cheaper per hour. There is way too much information to cover in a couple of hours. Even those who had attended a clinic before who had specific problems to work out discovered how fast the two hours went.
I know the need for consistent follow up with lessons in order for steady progression to occur. I am going to provide this service by establishing a home base where I can give lessons from in Omaha and Lincoln. I will be rotating on a 6-week schedule so you have plenty of time to practice in between sessions.
Having a place for students to come will give us more time and we won’t have to worry about weather. I am looking at heated facilities to work from, so that we can continue through winter for those fanatics like me who want to play year round. I will try to remain as flexible as possible with scheduling, you will need to make arrangements in advance for your time slot and keep your lesson time or trade with someone once you have reserved a certain time.
Call us for details.
Happy Trails,
Sherry
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS FROM PRIVATE LESSONS!
"I enjoyed my private lesson IMMENSELY and your teaching reaches farther than you may think. I am amazed at how when one is all caught up in the "busy-ness" of the modern world, one becomes quite out of touch with themselves, removed from their true passions in life.
The time with you and my horse put me back in touch with something valuable I lost years ago. I am now searching for ways to bring nature and quality contact with horses back in my life. The summer is not a big problem, I have two months available there, usually then I am hauling my daughter all over the place for her showing. The rest of the year I work from just before sunup to after sundown, leaving me hardly any time for the things that really matter at home. I admire how you have successfully made your passion your work. Thank you for helping me to begin discovering the passions that were lost somewhere in this crazy world."

"Matt and I are so grateful for the time that we had with you! You taught me how to communicate in a clear manner that Matt is able to respond to and know what I am asking. He is doing so well and is eager to please. I can tell that he is just as proud when he "get's it" as I am. He is responding to the lightest of touch and starts doing circles as soon as I position and point! I am very excited to continue this journey with Matt, as I am committed to developing an amazing and "natural" partnership with him."

"I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed my lesson with you this weekend. I learned so much about the importance of being a good leader—a strong feel, not a wimpy feel—and how to help Array cross thresholds WITH confidence! I can’t believe she crossed that blowing tarp so nicely and then wore it. She’s crossed tarps before, but as you saw, I always made sure it wasn’t blowing too much and I certainly didn’t give her that much time to gain confidence in the tarp. I also learned the importance of attitude and what happens when she doesn’t want to pair up with me! After you left I watched some more videos with Linda and how she works with a horse to make sure the horse wants to be with her and it reinforced everything that you had demonstrated and that we experienced with Array when she did not want to be with us.
I look forward to the next time you are in the area because I truly would like my next lesson with you to be one where you ride Foster and I ride Array and have you help me on the “trail” when she becomes unconfident and fearful. I see now that I’m gaining the tools necessary to become a more confident leader and that will help her to become a more confident horse."
Best Wishes,
Cindy
