Hello everyone,
“When it is time – just let it happen! Don’t be in a hurry!” By Tom Dorrance
Tom Dorrance was a master at natural horsemanship and one of the most influential men behind the current natural horsemanship movement. He has been referred to as the “horse’s lawyer.” I have read his book “True Unity” a couple of times.
As this web site has been being birthed over the last few months I have had to remember this quote several times. Just like so many natural horsemanship principles that I have learned they will apply to many areas of our lives if we have the open mind, willingness and desire to allow them to transfer.
I would like to thank Kelli Paulson for the talent and dedication that she has brought to this project in the midst of her very busy life. Without her it certainly would not have happened with my limited knowledge and skills with a computer.
A lot of us think that we would like to have everything working well with our horses and in our lives also. But if it’s going to be too much trouble we often decide we don’t need it. It is not difficult to get this attitude especially if we have worked at it for a while without the desired results. This is exactly how I felt when I began the journey of building a web site.
After giving myself some time to think on it, I realized that I needed to keep going ahead, that giving up was not an option. But I also needed a fresh start. In order to insure that this project survived I needed to figure out what to look for, what the need is, and who could help me achieve success. There are so many opportunities for success out there that we don’t seem to realize that they even exist. All we need to do is seek and we will find the necessary tools and assistance to accomplish that which we will not give up on.
Another training principle that Tom says in his book is “A person has to understand himself, his limitations, along with the horse and then try to get the two to blend.” I certainly knew my limitations for building a web site and so this project is a blend of both Kelli and I. With time, I am sure that this endeavor will evolve as we both learn, progress, and research and development lead us.
Tom’s wisdom has influenced me in so many ways by the words on the pages of his book. I wish that I could have had the opportunity and honor to talk with him in person, or even better watch him relating to a horse. One thing he says that really sticks with me is “YOU WON’T GET IT WITHOUT IT COMING OUT OF THE INSIDE OF SELF!”
As I write articles and newsletters for this web site I will determine to “let it come out of the inside of me so that some of what I know and feel can get on the inside of you!” For the sake of our horses I hope that all of us can get “it” coming out of the inside of us. Remember a great horseman like Tom is “Who you are on the inside that counts!”
Happy Trails,
Sherry Jarvis
